HIPICO Santa Fe is New Mexico's premier venue for equestrian events and a shining star in the southwest's horse show circuit. The horse park is just six miles from the world-class tourist destination city of Santa Fe and 53 miles from Albuquerque.
For many years the venue was known as the Santa Fe Horse Park and the Santa Fe Equestrian Center. It hosted top shows for many disciplines, as well as a summer polo circuit. The original 137-acre grounds included multi-discipline arenas, an indoor arena, spacious barns, paddocks and polo fields.
From 2004 to 2006, the site was home to the prestigious Grand Prix de Santa Fe, New Mexico's only Grand Prix-level jumper competition. The event was co-founded by the McElvain and Gonzales families, and they continued to run the four-day jumper show through 2009, although it moved to another location. By 2010, the Grand Prix was temporarily suspended while the partners searched for a permanent home to fulfill their dream of bringing world-class equestrian competition — and a world-class facility — to Santa Fe and the southwest.
In January of 2015, the two families purchased the old equestrian center and renamed it HIPICO Santa Fe. The renovated facility now has a distinctive southwestern charm and the ability to host horse events of all types. Its inaugural event is the three-week Santa Fe Summer Series of A-rated hunter/jumper competition beginning July 22nd.
